Graduation & Commencement

Congratulations! You've worked hard here at UNLV, and now it's time to get recognized. Graduation is fast approaching. But before you put on your cap and gown at commencement, follow this checklist to ensure you are on the right track to getting your diploma.

Applying For Graduation

When to Apply
You must have an expected senior standing i.e., at the time of your application, your earned credits plus the credits you are currently enrolled in should equal 90 or more. This should occur approximately 2 academic semesters before your anticipated graduation term (please note — the last 30 credits must be earned at UNLV).

Application Instructions

  1. Contact your advising center
Contact the advising center(s) of any major(s) you plan on graduating in to learn the graduation process of that particular college.

  2. Initiate your application
Initiate your application, this simply means that you inform us about your intent to graduate and the specific semester in which you will complete the graduation requirements. Initiation occurs in the Enrollment Services Center (SSC-C).

  3. Pick up your graduation packet
When you initiate your application, you will be given a date when you will return to the Enrollment Service Center (SSC-C Building)to pick up your graduation packet. It takes about four weeks for us to compile your graduation packet so please factor this into your timeline and apply on time.

  4. Obtain the appropriate signatures
If you have worked closely with your advisor up until this point, you probably know how to proceed. If not, contact your advising center and follow their instructions. Your graduation application needs to be approved by your advisor, the chair of your department, and the dean of your college. Again, your advising center will guide you on how to obtain these approvals and signatures.

  5. Pay the fee
Once your application is approved and signed by all appropriate parties, take it to the Cashiering & Student Accounts Office in Student Services Complex, Room 133 (SSC-A 133), pay the associated fee, and leave your application with them. Congratulations, you’re done! We’ll take it from here while you finish the remaining coursework.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not complete your degree requirements in the term anticipated, you must contact the Enrollment Service Center (SSC-C) and update your anticipated term of graduation. Failure to do so will prevent your application from getting processed when you have finally completed your degree requirements and might delay your actual term of graduation.
